Today, while visiting the new SimCity website, I was looking at their release notes for an update

and I noticed the following:

Observe, how the developer had mistyped the year in the note (shown in the middle section of the screenshot above) while the actual date of the note (at the top) shows the correct date. The year is mentioned as 2012 in the developer’s note when it should be 2013.

This is quite a common mistake and I myself often make such mistake with the year. This often happens when I am involved in a project that spans across several years. To me it seems that time has a different measure than the one measured in a standard calendar. To me, each of my milestones in the project is actually as a single day and the field indicating the year is just a simple label which has no meaning in my world. This is because, I am so wrapped up with the details of the project that I am dealing with only those pieces to meet my deadline for the milestone. During this period (which could be measured in weeks in a standard calendar) I am only going through my codes day in and day out. My other daily activities such as groceries; shower, (being friendly with others) etc. are conducted in a well orchestrated daze.

My thoughts are planted entirely with the details of the code and nothing else. At best I would be able to keep track of the day and the month but year is so insignificant that I would have no room for it in my head. This is what commonly known as losing track of time. And thus a programmer could make a mistake as the above J
